“Ocean Water, Organic Matrix” After many years of study and biological laboratory research, René Quinton determined a number of astounding findings regarding the natural laws governing animal and human life. According to Quinton, many eons ago when the temperature of the earth cooled sufficiently to form the oceans, ocean water contained a low concentration of mineral salts. However the mineral content gradually increased as under-sea volcanoes erupted, mineral deposits from the primordial continent washed into the oceans and terrestrial hydro-thermal crust vents opened. At that time, when the mineral content of the ocean reached about 9 grams p/ liter, unicellular life appeared. The early forms of life found the oceans to be an ideal environment, because their vastness prevented drastic changes in acidity, temperature and ionic constituents. Since the ancient oceans were favorable to life, animal forms have preserved within themselves the original medium, as they migrated from water to land along the long evolutionary path, from an unicellular structure to the complexity of man. To demonstrate his hypotheses, Quinton elaborated a marine plasma, which bears his name and closely resembles the primary composition of ocean water. With it he carried out many experiments on dogs. He verified that white blood cells and tissue fragments could live and prosper in the Quinton Plasma. His experiments proved conclusively that the blood serum and the interstitial fluid which bathe every cell of the body are almost identical to isotonic (0.9%) ocean water. Quinton’s book, “Ocean Water, Organic Matrix” published in 1904, reported on his discoveries. The book was highly acclaimed by the Paris Academy of Medicine and Quinton was looked upon as the new Darwin.
